What is Students For Recycling (SFR)

SFR is a student run organization dedicated to furthering recycling on osu, educating the student body on the importance of recycling, and bringing students who love to recycle together.

How did SFR start

They say it was a cold, windy night in January of 2002. The kind of night a bat wouldn’t even venture into. But on the classroom wall, three shadows danced to the flicker of a candle.
Scott Wesseler, Aleks Dubinskiy, and Dan Jaynes were too steeped in conversation to notice the icicles developing on their eyelashes. They were the recycling committee of the Campus Green Party, and tonight, they talked of treason.
“Split from Campus Green, are you insane?”
“We have no other choice.”
“They’ll hang us for this. It’s never been done. It can’t be done. I refuse to hear this treachery.”
“Listen! Recycling is a bigger issue then any of us thought. If it is to succeed, we have to focus on it. We have to split up. There is no other choice. For the sake of recycling, we have to leave Campus Green”.
The debate lasted until far into the morning. When the three of them emerged from the room, they were no longer the recycling committee of Campus Green. But the new, Students for Recycling.

It was not easy for them. A recycler’s path is filled with hardship and loses. The group quickly found this out. While walking home from a recycling meeting one night, surprise waiting for them on the Oval. They jumped down from the trees. Popped up from behind the bushes. And called out to our fair heroes. Tattoos on their forehead marked what they were—a group of renegade litter--ers.
--“Well Well, who do we have here?”
--“A group of tree hugging recyclers it seems.”
--“I’ll tell you what boys. If you can throw this can away in that trashcan, we’ll let you go.”
“I’d rather die in battle you disgusting feign!”
With that the swords were unsheathed. The sound of metal and tortured screams erupted on the Oval. As soon as it started it was over. Our heroes stood amongst a sea of dead evil doers. But something was amiss. Protruding out of his chest, Scott had a wooden arrow.
“Scott!”
“Its to late for me,” he muffled. “Promise me. You must, continue to recycle. Promise me.” With that, his last breath escaped.

Determined to make the most of Scott’s sacrifice, Aleks and Dan continued their work though tedious and difficult. It soon became clear that the task would require help. They had heard of an enchanted forest on West Campus that was claimed by a group of magical recyclers.
They entered the forest, venturing deeper and deeper until they reached the center. There it was. A city built entirely from recycled goods. Upon the throne of the city sat an elegant woman, Ann Dunlope, whose beauty was only matched by the heiress to the throne, Lindsay Kenzig. Stunned by their aura, both men immediately kneeled before them.
--“Stand young gentleman. We are all equals in the Kingdom of Recycling.”
“Lady Dunlope, Lady Kenzig, we have come afar to ask you. . .”
--“Yes, I know why you have come. You seek help in advancing recycling at OSU. Fear not, for I will grant your wish. Lindsay and myself shall journey away from our home to aid you in your quest.”
With the aid of Ann and Lindsay, Students for Recycling started their journey. Today its one of the leading student organizations at OSU—continually working with the administration and student body to advance recycling. And some say, that if you go to one of their meetings, you may be able to meet one of these courageous individuals.
